The beginning of my journey...

Hello you,

I thought that the best thing would to be to share my story with how i've ended up where i am at currently.  In a nutshell obviously as I'm 27 years old and I don't want to bore you to death.

I've never been a "skinny" girl, and i say that in inverted commas because there is as much stigma about being "fat" as there is "skinny". I've always been on the larger side of life, i've always been tall (i stand at 5'7) and i have size 8 feet, so everything about me has always been larger.

Sadly, i don't really remember a point in my life where weight hasn't been an "issue"/something i have thought about.  I think most Monday's of my life have consisted of me starting/restarting a diet.

Anyway.. jump to the point where i have my first period. I actually can't quite remember how old i was but i was in secondary school, maybe year 8/9. So that week or however long it lasted came and went and then nothing, for a whole year.. I'm sure many of you may be thinking how lovely that would be, but for me it wasn't so great. When you are still attending school the last thing you want is for a mishap as you have no idea when you may come on.

So i attended my GP with my mum and explained all of this, and her initial reaction/assessment was that it was because i was overweight.... now don't get me wrong, i am well aware weight plays a bit part in respect of your menstrual cycle but as a GP i expected her to be a little more open minded. With some persuasion she ended up referring me to have some bloods done to check my hormones.

Low and behold, when the results came back, it showed that i had higher levels of testosterone than normal. This, added to the fact that i suffer(ed) with hirsutism (excess hair), they then had a good idea that it was Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Off the back of that they then also sent me for an ultra sound.. let me tell you, the looks you get when you go for an ultra sound and are like 13/14 years old, my goodness!!

Long story short, no cysts showed up when i had the ultra sound but with all the other factors, they ruled it as PCOS. So onto contraception i went (to stop any menstrual accidents) and the lifelong battle with weight loss began.

Want to know more.... stay tuned.

All my love, B x
